Formed more than 90 years ago, it has survived revolution, war and the collapse of the Soviet empire to become one of the most important companies in the world, ranking on a level with the Bolshoi and Mariinsky companies.
Renowned particularly for its superb classical interpretations and its rich and varied repertoire, the world’s most famous dancers and choreographers have contributed to its success and graduates from the most important ballet schools in Russia have passed through its ranks.
Today the company’s 90-strong corps de ballet has a rich repertoire of classics and modern productions, including Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker Suite, Corsair, Giselle, Don Quixote.
Their philosophy is to preserve the traditions of the past with a determination to fascinate and amaze the audience.
