The Nutcracker Tchaikovsky
Following the success of The Sleeping Beauty, Ivan Alexandrovitch Vsevolojsky, director of the Imperial Theatres, proposed a second partnership between choreographer Marius Petipa and composer Piotr Ilyitch Tchaikovsky. So in 1891, the legendary choreographer Marius Petipa (1819 - 1910) commissioned Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) to write the music for the Nutcracker Ballet based on the booked called “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” written by German author E.T.A. Hoffman.
It was published in 1816 as a rather morbid and depressing story until it was revised by French author Alexander Dumas Pere in 1844 to appeal to children.
